1931 - 1940: THE BIRTH OF THE UNIVERSITY
In the 1920s and 1930s, the new Soviet State was recovering from the 1917 revolution and the events of the Civil War. The period of industrialization and the cultural revolution of the 1930s made education a strategically important area. The history of the university begins in this period. So, in 1931, on the basis of the Moscow Region Pedagogical College after Profintern, the Moscow Region Pedagogical Institute was founded. This event was a response to the urgent need for professional educators who were supposed to bring knowledge to every corner of a country actively building socialism. In such a system, the MRPI became a key training center for all regions.
1941-1950: THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR AND THE PERIOD OF RECOVERY
The Second World War was a severe ordeal for the whole country. The teachers and students of the Institute participated in the fighting, worked on the labor front, providing the country with the necessary specialists, thereby contributing to the overall Victory. The educational institution itself, like many other universities in the Soviet Union, was forced to evacuate to the East during the most difficult years of the war. However, upon returning to Moscow, when the terrible threat of losing the capital receded, the institute faced a new fateful test: due to the needs of wartime, the main academic building was lost and the MRPI was transferred to the pre-revolutionary building on Radio Street. This marked a new era in the life of the institute.
1950 - 1970: DEVELOPMENT IN THE ERA OF STABILIZATION
After the end of the War, the institute focused on rebuilding the educational infrastructure and training personnel for the post-war country. In 1957, the institute was named after Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya, which emphasized its importance in the Soviet education system. This period, as well as the general situation in the country, became a time of stable growth and development, the scientific and educational positions of the institute were actively strengthened, and cooperation with the countries of the socialist bloc expanded. Special attention was paid to Soviet sports during this period, and achievements in this field glorified the university not only in the USSR, but also abroad.
1980 - 1990: PERESTROIKA AND THE CHALLENGES OF THE NEW ERA
In the 1980s, the university developed and underwent transformations in the spirit of perestroika. During this difficult period, the institute managed to preserve its traditions and adapt to new realities. The subsequent collapse of the USSR affected all spheres of life, including education. In 1991, MOPI was transformed into Moscow Pedagogical University, which symbolized a new stage of development — compliance with modern requirements of higher education. Under the last director of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the first rector of the Moscow Pedagogical University, Nikolai Alexandrovich Khromenkov, the university, in addition to strengthening its own scientific and pedagogical positions in the domestic educational market, began close and extremely productive cooperation with foreign educational institutions in Germany, France and many other leading countries in the field of education.
UNIVERSITY IN THE XXI CENTURY
Today, the university is actively implementing modern educational technologies, digitalization and intensifying scientific activities, remaining an important center for training specialists for the education system. In 2022, the word "pedagogical" was added to the name of the university, and it was renamed the State University of Education, which symbolized a return to the historical traditions of enlightenment and emphasized its important mission in modern Russia. The growth and increasing influence of the State University of Education also highlighted the fact that as early as 2024 The university became federally subordinated, marking its focus not only on the region, but also capital schools.
THE RECENT HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY
The Federal State University of Education continues to strengthen its position as a leader in "teaching" education in Russia, actively developing international cooperation and introducing innovative educational programs. In 2023, declared the "Year of the Teacher and Mentor," the university became the operator of key events and implemented large-scale projects to support teaching staff. Special attention is paid to the digitalization of education, research and development and the creation of a modern educational environment, which makes it possible to train highly qualified specialists for the country's education system.
